If you’re looking for ways to save money on your monthly bills, your cell phone plan is a great place to start. Data plans can get expensive, especially if you want unlimited data or streaming services.
Thankfully, wireless carriers across the nation offer promotions on their phones and data plans, with the most popular carriers offering special rates to military personnel and veterans.
Verizon offers military discounts to current military members, veterans, and their family members when the veteran is the primary account holder.
Verizon offers these discounts on their Verizon Wireless cell phone plans, as well as Verizon Fios, which is their Internet, cable, and home phone line service.
Verizon Military Discount Eligibility
If you have ever researched military discounts, you know that offers vary from company to company, especially with regards to eligibility requirements.
In some cases, military discounts do not extend to family members. In other cases, you might find discounts limited to active duty military personnel. Verizon is not one of those companies.
Verizon offers the Military and Veteran Discount Program to all active military members, veterans, and their family members.
Family members are eligible for the discount as long as the military member or veteran is the primary account holder.
Verizon lists the following groups of military personnel (and their immediate families) as eligible: Air Force, Army, Marines. Navy, Coast Guard, commissioned officers of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, commissioned officers of the United States Public Health Service, all military reserves and National Guard, and veterans of all branches.
In order to gain access to Verizon’s military or veterans discount, you will be required to present proof of military service. This can be done in person at a store, or online.
Active military members:
- Verify military discount eligibility online
- Military-issued email
- Military pay stub (LES)
- SCRA Status Report
Veterans:
- DD Form 214
- Veteran’s ID Card
- Military Retiree Account Statement
- VetRewards Card from Veterans Advantage
Note: If you currently have a plan with Verizon and are eligible to receive the military or veterans discount, you can begin receiving the discount with one of the proofs listed above.
To register your existing account, click the “Existing Customers link” in the menu on the Verizon website and enter your Verizon mobile number in the My Verizon User ID or mobile number field to start.

I want to go back to Verizon. I had Verizon 3 years ago and switched to an ATT plan that promised more than I got. I take a lot of calls on my phone and want to keep my present smart phone number. Can I switch back to Verizon and keep my number without cancelling ATT account first? I do, indeed, want to canx ATT but do not know if having the same number is possible while it is being used with another carrier. The whole idea is not to be without phone service on my for a few days while all the paperwork catches up. Can I have my old/new telephone number on more than one carrier?

I tried getting the military discount with Verizon. We have FIOS and Phone with discounts for auto pay, giga bit loyalty discount, whole home wi-fi discount and connections discount. It showed a total reduction in bill of $20 for added military but when clicking the checkout button the bill went up straight away by $10 because you can’t have both sets of discounts at the same time. I.e. the military discount replaces all the others and does not add to them so the overall bill would go up if I confirmed the order. I did not since it wasn’t worth it.

you have verizon listed as a 35 off two of more lines. That policy was changed it is now 25.

No…..it does not work if you are a military widow…….you don’t have a DD-214 so they deny you. You see, when an active duty member dis, you are issued instead, a DD-1300…..so approaching Verizon with that detail, they denied me as they want a DD-214 instead. Well, the irony is, Verizon never researched that a LIVE discharging military member gets a DD-214…..a deceased active duty member gets the death certificate, DD-1300. So long story short, I was denied a discount BECAUSE my husband died in action, and I have no DD-214. And contacting a Verizon CEO did NOTHING……how’s THAT for honoring the Gold Star discount program??

Wow, I was considering switching services but after reading this… never mind.
