If you work in the military or any other large organization, you are probably familiar with Microsoft Office products. In fact, there is a good chance you use it in your daily work activities. The good news is Microsoft and your organization both want you to be proficient with Microsoft Office so they have partnered together to give you access to Office at a discount through the Microsoft Home Use Program (HUP). Current military members (active and Guard/Reserve) and their family members are eligible to save 30% on Microsoft Office 365 subscriptions.
Microsoft Office 365 normally retails at $99.99 per year for a family plan (up to 6 people). But current servicemembers can get it for $69.99 per year through the Microsoft Home Use Program (a savings of 30%).
Visit the Microsoft website to take advantage of this offer.
Offer Details – What’s Included in the Military Discount
The Microsoft Home Use Program gives users access to the entire Microsoft Office Suite. The best part is that when you buy a license, you are getting access to the full versions of the Microsoft Office Suite, including:
Microsoft Office 365 includes:
- Word 2019
- Excel 2019
- PowerPoint 2019
- One Note 2019
- Outlook 2019
- Access 2019
- Publisher 2019
- Plus 1 Terabyte storage per user (up to 6 TBs storage with the family plan)
Compatibility Across All Devices
Microsoft has been moving its software to the cloud. Several years ago they released Office 365, which is cloud-based. So the software lives in the cloud and is compatible across virtually all devices, including Windows 10, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android devices.
Microsoft Office Military Discount Eligibility
The Microsoft Home Use Program is a benefit of Microsoft’s Volume Licensing programs. Organizations that participate in volume licensing programs have the option of offering extended licenses to their employees. If you are an active* member of the US Military, then you can participate in this offer.
- * by active, we simply mean still currently serving in the military, including both the active and Reserve Components (National Guard and Reserves)
Because the Microsoft Home Use Program is a special licensing arrangement between organizations and Microsoft, there are eligibility limitations. This offer is not available to former military members or retired military members.
However, many organizations offer the Microsoft Home Use Program so you can check with your organization if you work for a large company or organization.
Additionally, Microsoft offers a 10% military discount for both current and former military members and their families. So you can still receive a 10% discount on Office 365 even if you are no longer currently serving in the military.
- Visit this page to receive the 30% Discount on the Microsoft Home Use Program.
- Visit the Microsft Store to activate the 10% military discount on other Microsoft Products.
How the Microsoft Home Use Program Works
The Microsoft HUP requires participants to use an approved email address to activate the discount. This is the most effective way to verify someone works for the participating organization. So you will need to use your military email address, not a personal email address!
Military Discount Eligibility
Step 1: Click this link to access the Microsoft Home Use Program website.
Step 2: Enter your approved email address, for Military members this would be your .mil email address, or similar. Some examples include @mail.mil, @navy.mil, @us.af.mil, @us.army.mil, @usmc.mil, or your deployed email address. (note: this is not a full list of eligible email addresses, simply try your military email address, then contact Microsoft if that doesn’t work).
Step 3: Upon validation of your email, you will receive an e-mail from Microsoft with a link to access the store to purchase. Click the “buy now” link. In some cases, you can complete your purchase without further verification.
Note: You may need to enter a validation code for approval. These are some of the codes we have found on various websites and forums:
- Air Force
- 4A82EF7B8F
- Or Click the link that says “I do not know my program code.” Microsoft will send an email with further instructions.
- Army
- ABAD560AD0
- Coast Guard
- B7F5409CA4 or 445DF3F5E5
- Marine Corps
- 3BA9CE3008 – for @usmc.mil
- DAB143CCC2 – for @pacom.mil, @fe.navy.mil, @eu.navy.mil, and @me.navy.mil
- If your email address ends with @ship.navy.mil, try another military email address; this extension does not work at this time.
- Navy
- DAB143CCC2
- Includes the following email extensions – @navy.mil, @pacom.mil, @fe.navy.mil, @eu.navy.mil, and @me.navy.mil
- If your email address ends with @ship.navy.mil, try another military email address; this extension does not work at this time.
- Transportation Security Administration (TSA) & Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
- D47F29C596
Step 4: Forward the email and receipt to your personal email address in order to access the download link from your home computer. Do not click “install” on your work computer device.
Step 5: Once home, click through the receipt email to install the software. Note: the product key in the email is necessary for installation.

Microsoft Military HUP Code Doesn’t Work – What Next?
If you are having troubles with the Microsoft Home Use Program, you may need to contact Microsoft customer support.
Before you do that, try using a different military email address if you have one. For example, some military email addresses don’t work, such as @ship.navy.mil and many email addresses specific to deployed locations. When possible, use your branch of service’s main email address:
- Air Force (@us.af.mil), Army (@mail.mil), Marines (@usmc.mil), or Navy (@navy.mil).
Also, it is known that Coast Guard email addresses typically won’t receive incoming email from the Microsoft HUP. You will most likely need to contact Microsoft Customer Support.
Microsoft Customer Support:
- Phone: 1-800-936-5700 or 1-800-642-7676
- Microsoft Support Online Chat (requires a Microsoft account)
- Be sure to specify that you are trying to purchase Microsoft Office through the Home Use Program and be specific regarding your branch of service. This will speed the process along.
Microsoft Office Discount for Non-Military Members
No Longer in the Military? You may be eligible if your current employer participates in the Home Use Program. There are over 40,000 companies and organizations worldwide that participate in Microsoft’s Home Use Program. This includes many large companies, government organizations, and more.
To see if your company participates in the program, simply visit the Microsoft Home Use Program website, enter your company email address, and verify eligibility. (Remember, this won’t work with your personal email address, verification is made through the email address of a participating company).

What if I subscribed to Microsoft 365 already and just now found this 30% discount? Can I apply it to my annual subscription, retroactively?
Ryan Guina says
Hello Robert, I’m not sure if you can apply this retroactively – you would need to contact Microsoft’s customer support. However, I would think they could prorate the discount going forward, or possibly apply it to your account if you have it on auto-renew. I would contact them to verify.
